          HIGH PRESSURE NOZZLES

Most operators of pressure washers are not aware of the inportance of nozzle orifice size. The size of the nozzle determines if your pressure washer is developing the correct pressure. If the nozzle size is to small it will restrict the flow and the unloader valve will go into bypass. If the nozzle is to large it will not restrict the water flow enough and the pressure at the nozzle will drop. In fact if you have a pressure washer with an unloader valve that is not adjustable you can lower the pressure by using a larger nozzle than the machine calls for. The degrees of the nozzle pertains to the spray fan generated by the nozzle. A zero degree spray tip sprays a small circular pattern such as a pencil tip. A 40 degree tip will spray a fan that has a 40 degree width. There is a formula used to determine the nozzle size and charts are available using this formula. However nozzles wear fairly quickly and the size stamped on the nozzle will no longer apply. The best way to determine if your nozzle is correct is to insert a gauge with quick coupler ends into the line on the output side of the unloader valve. If your machine is not putting out the proper pressure and the pump is operating to specifications change the nozzle size to a larger or smaller orifice size until the gauge reads the pressure your machine is rated to.

THE CHART BELOW CAN BE USED TO DETERMINE NOZZLE

THE CENTER SECTION OF CHART IN RED REPRESENTS GALLONS PER MINUTE

  1. In the top Blue row find your machines PSI (pressure per square inch). Use the closest PSI that is in the chart.
  2. In the column below your machines PSI find your machines GPM (gallons Per Minute in Red. Use the closest GPM that is in the chart.
  3. When you find the row your GPM (gallons per minute) is located in follow that row over to the LEFT hand Green column to determine your correct nozzle size.
